Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Microneedling

Prepare & Aftercare Guide

  • Consultation: You’ll typically have a consultation to discuss your skin goals and determine if microneedling is right for you. This is the time to discuss any medical concerns or allergies.

Preparation: Your practitioner might advise you to avoid certain skincare products, like retinoids and certain acids, a few days before the procedure. Sun exposure should also be minimized.

Numbing Cream: On the day of the treatment, a topical numbing cream is usually applied to minimize discomfort. It takes about 20–30 minutes to take effect.

  • Procedure: The actual microneedling involves a device with fine needles that create tiny punctures in the skin. This encourages the skin’s natural repair process and stimulates collagen production.

Sensation: While the numbing cream helps, you might still feel a light pricking sensation or slight discomfort, depending on your pain tolerance and the needle length used.

Duration: The whole procedure generally takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated.

  • Immediate Effects: Your skin might appear red, similar to a mild sunburn, and feel warm or tight. This usually subsides in a few hours to a couple of days.

Post-Care: It’s important to follow any aftercare instructions given by your Radiant team. Avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours is usually recommended.

Downtime: There’s typically minimal downtime. Most people resume normal activities the following day, although they might avoid heavy workouts for a couple of days.

Results: While some improvement can be seen within a week, the full effects of microneedling, like improved texture and firmness, may take a few weeks to a couple of months as collagen continues to rebuild.

Follow-Up Treatments: Depending on your skin goals, several sessions spaced a few weeks apart might be recommended for optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is microneedling, and how does it work?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses tiny, sterile needles to create micro-injuries on the skin's surface. This process stimulates the skin's natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production to improve texture, reduce fine lines, and even out skin tone.

What skin concerns can microneedling address?

Microneedling is versatile and can help improve various skin issues, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and overall skin texture. It can also enhance the absorption of skincare products applied after treatment.

Is microneedling painful, and what is the recovery like?

A topical numbing cream is applied to minimize pain. Most patients say they feel no discomfort.  After the session, the skin may appear red and slightly swollen, similar to a mild sunburn, which usually subsides within a few days. Proper post-care is essential to avoid complications and aid recovery. You will be required to purchase the recovery kit at Radiant.

How many microneedling sessions will I need for optimal results?

The number of sessions depends on individual skin concerns and goals. Generally, a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended for best results. However, the exact number can vary, so it's best to consult with a Radiant team member for a personalized treatment plan.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with microneedling?

Microneedling is considered safe for most skin types when performed by a qualified professional. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and mild irritation. Rare complications can include infection or hyperpigmentation.
